OTOduino: free Arduino/iPhone interface app

The Hoz writes to inform us of another Arduino related iPhone app known as OTOduino. This free app allows you to interact with an Arduino and monitor/control analog and digital IO ports in real-time via a simple audio jack interface. It’s currently available from the iPhone app store.

O3D: OpenSpace3d real time dev platform

I-Maginer has announced the release of the latest version of OpenSpace3d, an Open Source platform for 3D real time project development.

OpenSpace3D using the SCOL technology allows users to build fully interactive graphically rich 3D scenes without entering a single line of code, and include human interaction with Wii tools, a joypad, etc. This latest version includes the features shown at the Laval Virtual Exhibition. There is also an an add-on to support the Kinect, which is utilized in the above demo video.

CMU robotics academy materials


Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) has a number of free online materials from their Robotics Academy. The programs, designed to spark interest in robotics among younger students, are known as FIRE, for Fostering Innovation through Robotics Exploration. The program’s mission is to “use the motivational effects of robotics to excite students about science and technology.”

The tutorials include coverage of the Vex Robotics products and LEGO Mindstorm products as well as general topics related to robot development.

Iphone Arduino simulator app

This video shows a Schogini Systems Iphone app that allows you to simulate Arduino circuit breadboarding and sketch coding on an Iphone. According to the video, you can email the code to your computer for further development or device programming.

We couldn’t find it in the app store yet this morning, but this concept looks promising.

Logic Shrimp release package v2.0

Over the last few weeks we did a massive cleanup and reorganization of our SVN code repository. Most projects now follow a standard directory structure. All our in-progress and stalled project files are now completely open and available to anyone. We also included all the manufacturing resources used to initiate production at Seeed, and the original artwork and diagrams used in the documentation. The final step of the cleanup is to release packages and source archives for each project.

Updated source archive and user packages for the Logic Shrimp are now available.  This package covers Logic Shrimp v1 and v2.

The STM32L-DISCOVERY helps you to discover the STM32L ultralow power features and to develop and share your applications.

First 32bit Arduino avalable soon

Digilent is soon to be launching two Arduino compatible platforms, the Uno32(pictured above)and the Max32. based on microchip‘s pic32mx micro controllers. Following the Arduino philosophy of easy to use software and hardware, and not to mention the support structure already in place. they are both compatibly with existing shields.

99 dollar PCI-E FPGA kit

riktw tipped us to a LatticeECP3 Versa development kit:

i got this in a lattice newsletter per e-mail today.
a big PCB with a big FPGA and a fast PCI-E connection for just 99 dollars. after some googeling i found the quickstart PDF from it, it looks like good value for money but not for beginners.
so if you ever had the urge to develop your own video card or network card, well today’s your lucky day :)

Minibloq: developing a graphical programming environment for Arduino

Minibloq is a graphical programming environment for Arduino and other physical computing devices, such as DuinoBot or Maple. One of its main goals is to bring closer Arduino, Multiplo and other platforms to primary schools, kids and beginners. It’s currently under development, and they are conducting a Kickstarter campaign with the goal of finishing the software and making it available to everyone.

This is a work in progress, and they are asking for our help.

Python-Arduino prototyping API

GitHub coder Akash Manohar has written the Python-Arduino Prototyping API. This code helps you to quickly prototype Arduino programs, without having to repeatedly load the program to the Arduino board. Setup involves loading the prototype.pde sketch onto your Arduino dev board, and importing the Arduino lib in your python script. The current version allows reading/writing to digital and analog pins and basic Arduino control methods.

Bus Pirate breakout board

schazamp is hosting a group buy of his Bus Pirate breakout board in the forum.

I’ve got a few people who are interested in this board, and I’ve been thinking of making another (small) production run. Is anyone else interested in a PCB? They would be $3 or $4, (depending on how many I do) shipping included (anywhere in the US). They will be available available in 2 or 3 weeks.

I have ordered the boards, I should have them to ship in two weeks. I have 4 boards remaining from this run, so if anybody still wants one, please let me know!

Maker Faire travel and reduced support

We’ll be at the Seeed Studio booth at Bay Area Maker Faire on May 21st and 22nd. If you’re at Maker Faire please stop by and see us in the main hall, along with the Gadget Factory, and other awesome makers.

All weekend we’ll have on-the-scene coverage of the Faire. If you’d like us to cover a specific booth please let us know in the comments. We’ll try to score some swag we can give away on the blog later.

There’s no internet at the Maker Faire, so support in the forum will be slower than usual. If you have a question please hang tight. If the fantastic community doesn’t come to the rescue first, we’ll be here to help ASAP.
