Asgard shared another project the GeePibber, an IEEE-488 (GPIB / HPIB) to USB adapter in the project log forum:

This project is an IEEE-488 (GPIB / HPIB) to USB adapter. I need this because I recently acquired an ancient (but so am I) logic analyzer/oscilloscope which uses only the GPIB to read out and load the instrument’s current state (including state inverse assemblers).

    This is awesome and timely, I’ve been looking to use something like this as well. I am planning on buying an old piece of gear that has GPIB as well.

    Are these going to be available for purchase?

    Great to see this! I’m currently using this one which has been working OK for logging a Keithley 196 voltmeter I got from ebay There are occasional odd readings, but I believe that is from the voltmeter itself.

    @JBeale – yeah I have been looking at that one as well. I am interested in supporting the little guy as much as possible. Who knows, I might pick up both ( provided this one becomes available ) – otherwise I will certainly purchase the one from Steven Casagrande.

    Does this work with the excellent free “KE5FX GPIB Toolkit” (query Google)? If-so, kudos!! If-not, a bit of a problem for me.

    I don’t know about the “KE5FX GPIB” software, I use about 5 lines of python as a simple data logger. The scasagrande GPIB device just looks like a serial port to the computer. It uses a common FTDI USB-serial chip.

  6. You may want to have a look at for some ideas. I am currently working on emulation of the Prologix command set needed for the KE5FX toolkit and such

    Good to hear about this. Please keep us informed. My Prologix adapter went belly-up a few months ago. I’d much prefer an open-source alternative. Maybe we can contribute.

  8. Sure. I have tested most of the stuff now, but most of it is geared towards Spectrum Analyzers and I do not have any…. It works well for saving and restoring settings from my HP1631D as well as uploading inverse assembler files. Drop me a line at d a l t o n AT p e d a g o DOT f i and we’ll chat offline.

    The sep 26 firmware is available on my website and I am preparing a new release. Just awaiting feedback from some people with Spectrum Analyzers :)

  9. FWIW check out EZGPIB. It is kind of neat and allows you to write data aquisition stuff in a Pascal-like language. Only drawback is that you have to hack the file to use it with my adapter as it insists on RTS being set and the Windows usbser.sys, does not do that.

    I will publish details on patching EZGPIB fro my adapter on my website though.

      Hi i’m trying to do your hardware for usb/gpib interface
      first question: the series resitor are 100 ohm = 1 hudred ohm or 10 ohm = ten ohm?
      second question: I try to patch the file EZGPIB but cant find the sequence You indicate on Your web page, the version of EZGPIB online is dated as You specified 20121217.

  10. 100 ohms, RP1 and RP2. The value is not extremely critical.
