Digitally controlled power supply

Wvdv2002 shared his digitally controlled power supply with us in the forums. It’s capable of driving 0-18V while having a current controlled output of 0-3A. The brains of the design is the PIC18f46j50 which controls a switch mode regulator’s voltage and current output through the MCP4822 two channel I2C DAC.

    Thanks Ian for featuring my not yet finished mobile power supply. The idea is to make a mobile power supply which can be powered by your laptops PSU. My Lenovo laptop adapter supplies 3A at 20V, so I thought, why not make a small switching power supply powered by my laptop adapter. It will become part of my mobile electronics toolbox. Which I can take with me to do some random building/hacking wherever I go. Up till now it contains a DSO Quad, small USB logic analyzer, this PSU, AVR and PIC programmers and a Bus Pirate. Together with some small development boards for PIC, AVR (Arduino) and an STM32 discovery board.
    Stay tuned for more updates on this power supply. If people are interested the goal might be to produce them on a small scale once the software and hardware has gone through some more rigorous testing and tuning.

    Would this work w/ the W530 laptop’s power supply too? Connector is slightly different but has more power…

    The idea was to later make the PCB compatible with different power jacks from different laptop manufacturers, so people can solder the one on the PCB which they need for their laptop. Although now that I am looking around on Ebay for the differnt connectors this might be a bit of a challenge. As all pinouts are quite different. Don’t expect a magsafe (apple) connector on one of these quickly ;)
