Microchip released version 1.2 of MPLABX. We tested it over the last week and didn’t have any issues, but we’re reluctant to move big projects like the Bus Pirate over and find unexpected surprises.

I’ve been using MPLAB X for about two months and Im loving it. I’m just waiting for Git integration. The current version of Netbeans has it already, but MPLAB X is still lacking it.
Importing existing MPLAB 8 projects is straight forward and I’ve got any problems until now.
Previously I was using Notepad++ with MPLAB 8.
I”m using nbGit for GIT integration within MPLabX. It works very well !!!

Stupd question time: can I use a Bus Pirate as an ethernet packet watcher? If so, which pins connect to which on the standard RJ-45 connector?
More to the point: what benefits do you get from the new IDE, that were missing before?
The new IDE works for Linux and OS X. The old did not.
For new users I would say the gui is more intuitive.. but not by much (configuring search paths for example is not immediately obvious). I like the way the files are organized in the new IDE vs how it was done in the past (with windows floating everywhere within a master window)
The downsides of it are there are lots of bugs (i.e. I hope the rename and copy project options are fixed in 1.2!), and it is slow to do some operations (It takes a long time to start up).
Bus Pirate cannot sniff ethernet packets, sorry.
