By using the coupon code “MPLABX” you’ll shave 20% off of a PICkit3 programmer/debugger, or a PICkit3 Debug express kit.
PICkit3 is the latest in the PICkit series of programmers from Microchip. It supports all PIC and dsPIC microcontroller families.
There are cheap clones floating around on eBay, but with this discount you can get an original for $36.
Microchip is celebrating the release of MPLAB X Version 1 with a special 20% discount on the PICkit™ 3 In-Circuit Programmer and PICkit 3 Debug Express. To take advantage of this promotion, use the code “MPLABX” upon checkout from the microchipDIRECT site.

The Microchip Direct shipping fees negate the discount… and then some (-6 discount + 10 shipping). It’s still cheaper (for me anyhow) to order at full price from Farnell or Mouser and avail of their free delivery thresholds (which is very low for Farnell).

Seems reasonable enough for the USA, but then we’re always ripe for a bait and switch, then probably use a 5kg box to start with.
Actually the €10 for my country is very reasonable. Mouser and Farnell don’t carry the ‘Express’ version of the PICKit3 right now (ie the cheap version without the extra development board etc). So I might order from them after all. I’m just too used to TI shipping stuff for free :-)
Thanks! I’ve been recommending the genuine Microchip tools ever since my clone board let out its magic smoke and fogged up the plexiglass half-case. I only have the PICkit 2, though, so it’s nice to get the PICkit 3 for about the same price as I paid for the PICkit 2.
It’s great they have the discount, but unfortunately I’d have to agree with the first comment. Have just priced it up & the shipping to the UK makes it more expensive than buying the PICkit3 from Farnell with free delivery :(
