Gleb Polyakov and Igor Zamlinsky of Atlanta, GA have designed this proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controlled espresso machine. Based upon their observations after reverse engineering a number of espresso units, the pair worked on developing a machine which would be reasonably priced, open source, be espresso pod compatible and have a PID controller. Temperature and pressure are controlled by an Arduino.
The resulting machine is expected to retail for $400, and the project has been fully funded on Kickstarter.
Here’s a link to their video demonstrating this project.

This is a nice project……
But a big what a shame that we have to wait for a 230v version, and when this becomes avaible the danish custom will add an insane import tax to it ;-(
I might still buy one though ;-)
Bo :o)
I understand that expresso machines are expensive retailed. But I expected an OSS version to be much much cheaper. What I don’t get though, is what causes this unit to be so expensive. Then again I don’t drink coffee (nor expresso) so I don’t get what this is about anyway :)
Hello, i’m writing not for a comment but to have help to make a project, do you know if is possible and who can help me do this:
I have a console zibase (x10 protocol) with same actuator to switch on/off the lights, now i want to have an arduino ( i think) to swich on/off and any all
other possible commands of my conditioner.
The problem is that i want to manage from remote my air conditioner that is controlled only from a IR remote controller,i think that arduino can learn the ir
code of the remote control and trasmit from a IR trasmitter (always in arduino) passing from a x10 protocol.
do you think that is possible?
best regards for your help
