
Andreas Hölldorfer of ChaozLabs has written up documentation on his 3D printable robot arm:
It is inspired by well known industrial robots but 3D printed. The overall goal is to build a nearly entirely printable and cheap robot arm with at least 5 degrees of freedom.

I see “entirely printable” and “cheap” in the same sentence. This dinosaur isn’t too convinced…
It is mentioned that the robot weights around 1.2kg and the cogwheels of at least the 1st and 2nd axis (not counting the rotating base plate) are 3d-printed parts.
What i am curious about is how long the teeth of especially the the 1st-axis cogwheels (which has to handle the largest loads) would last before either a tooth breaks or wears down so much that either slippage or heavy vibrations occur.
