A simple posture sensor

Here’s a simple cure for your posture and the back pain blues, a posture sensor by Wingman:

The simplest distance sensors are ultrasonic or infrared sensors. I went with a SR-HC04 because it is cheap and sufficiently precise. There are no special requirements to the controller so I am using an Attiny85. A small piezo speaker provides acoustic feedback to the user. The only thing left is the power supply for which 5V are needed because of the ultrasonic sensor. You could easily use an USB port but I did not want to rely on a computer, 3 button cells deliver around 4,5V and should work for a few days.

      Or, you know, you could take it as a learning challenge and figure out how to do it yourself rather than having it spoon-fed to you in a finished state. You’d just be an assembly machine otherwise, not an engineer/maker/etc.

      This is presented as an idea of how to use readily-available tech as a simple solution to the problem of remembering to maintain good posture.

      Use Google, read tutorials and challenge yourself to take on projects you don’t already know how to do. It will be tough at first, but you will grow more and open far more possibilities for your future.

      Or continue calling people’s projects useless because they don’t do all the work for you. It’s up to you.

        “useless” may sound hard, but it is as the falling apple of Newton. Newton would have also imagine the idea, without formulas and everyone should have to find out for yourself how it works. As a result the whole development would stop. Therefore, knowledge can only grow when you share it :)

        Anna, your metaphor is incorrect. You do NOT want to know about the principles that make the apple fall, you want the falling apple. You are obviously not interested in the concept behind this but just want to consume that apple…

    This will be helpful for me, but I constantly stand up and move away from the chair, and I don’t want to push a button to turn off the device.

    Maybe a two sensor solution will determine if I’m seated or not.

      How about some pressure-sensor in the chair? (car no-seatbelt warning style :)

      The software in the sensor stops the alarm if you are not sitting on the chair for a longer time and remembers your settings. It’s built to be powered on all the time. No button-pushing or pressure sensors needed.

    Anna, this post is not useless. He explains the alternatives he studied, and gives a detailed algorythm.
    When someones explains to you something, do you demand an excel spreadsheet otherwise you call the demonstration useless???
