El wire controlled with sound using MIDI

Posted on Thursday, May 17th, 2012 in project logs by DP

Paul’s El wire controller pulses electroluminescent wire to sound using the MIDI protocol output by many musical instruments. It’s based on SparkFun’s El wire sequencer, with a custom board decoding the MIDI information.

    Dear Paul,

I constructed an El Wire MIDI Control and programmed the EL-Sequencer_V21 with your code: float_code_06.zip, (man.hex)
But all Outputs are always ON !!!
    What is wrong?

    – Have you a documentation?
    – How should be the MIDI Signal? Status, data1 and data2
    – Is data 2 (velocity) necessary?
    – Why all Outputs are ON?
    – what can I do?
    – please help me!

    Best Regards
    Ulrich

  • KH: Really? They are digital inputs driven by an MCU. The MCU GPIO probably has diode clamps and ESD protection. Have you experienced such failures? Please...
  • KH: Neither. Google "Marco Schweighauser’s 8-bit virtual Javascript CPU" and see the first result. Sounds more like a very limited feature toy CPU.
