Alternatives to programming through a pin header

Menno posts several alternatives to using pin headers for programming microcontrollers. Most use spring loaded pogo-pins make contact with the programming signal pads. Check out more pictures on his Flickr page.

  1. Segger uses a special cable for the J-Link programmers/debuggers which adds no additional parts to the PCB.

    They are made by Tag Connect and they have adapters for Microchip, JTAG, MSP430 and others.

    I use a test bed of nails that programs the board via JTAG, plus additional spring pins for running tests after programming (current, voltage, digital buses, etc).
