Yes, it would actually be nice to have one more week. I’m behind schedule in both my work, the bookkeeping for a club I’m the treasurer for, the 7400 competition. I also need go to the embassy to pick up my visa for the Geek Tour and my lawns needs to be mowed as well :-)is.

I’m almost done, but missing the deadline by a few hours would be a bummer.
Hope I will not be very harsh and offensive, but… if one wants to finish his work in reasonably given deadline, he should consider doing something more than just beg for more time. I took two days of “vacation” from work to finish my entry in time and shorten my sleep-time, as I didn’t expect anybody else to solve my own problems.
On the other hand – I don’t care that much. I’ve already done it, so I have lots of free time to do another projects :-)

Yes please! I’ve waited for over two weeks for my EEPROM to arrive from USA and if it comes before the deadline I needn’t submit my bodge eeprom-from-atmega solution.
I can see why there is a cheer for deadline extension. I can only guess that the organizers want to give latecomers a change and maybe hope to increase the number of entries. However, those who met the deadline may not be as pleased.
Part of a competition is to meet the deadline. It is tough, but it is part of a competition’s charm. If you do not meet the deadline this year, then next year you have a head start. Or, alternatively, you’ve learned how to plan things better.
Arggh – no I want my life back! On the other hand the chips might turn up for the project I had originally planned :lol:
I only dabble in electronics, and wasn’t going to enter this year. But please, for the love of all that is holy, do this contest again next year! Hopefully I’ll have some idea of something I can do next year and enter the contest.
This would be great! I’m using some really small SMDs in my design and I’m having trouble with the soldering. One more week would be great!
Entrants on the East Coast of USA might have problems completing/submitting entries without power, internet access, mail (for parts). Adding high winds, flooding, snow to that makes it even more difficult. I thought I’d mention that since they are incommunicado due to Sandy.
But when they cannot get onto the net, how do they then know that the deadline has changed. Chicken and egg problems are more modern than you know ;-)
Good point. They may not care that much in say,NYC or Atlantic City as they have more pressing issues as well. I wonder how many NYC hackerspaces are flooded? Where I am we were prepared for a repeat of Irene, but were very lucky.
Wow! I’ve been just … well, you know: caught up with life. I have this (what I think is a) really cool project that I’ve been working on, but won’t be able to finish in time. I’m kinda torn here–in principle, it doesn’t seem fair to the other competitors, … but it would certainly benefit me. : )
No time to join this year so don’t really care if you extend it, but have some ideas so please hold a new one next year!

Oh yes please, extend the deadline, otherwise I won’t be able to present my build this year :( I didn’t expect those logic circuits to be so difficult to debug and lost a lot of time last week-end.
Please don’t extend the deadline. I will not be able to hand in anything anyways, and I want to see the results!
My time sharing algorithm must have failed me this week, so much left. A deadline extension would be most appreciated.

Yes!!! I’ve only got one more digit to solder in my 4017 clock. But I tested it with only three digits before and nothing lights up :O. A week would be great (and greatly appreciated) to fix it in time for entry.
One important aspect of doing a project is to complete that project “in time”. Extension of date of submission may be allowed only if sufficient entries are not yet received.
Those who are behind schedule can try next time.
If you decide to hold the competition again next year (and I hope you do), please extend the deadline a week ahead rather than the day before. I had a late project idea that I couldn’t finish in a week, but could have finished in two.
Yes, please! Sandy totally knocked us out – no electricity, no normal internet, cellphone works sporadically etc. Please, move deadline for 1 week at least…
Sorry guys, but we decided that the original deadline stays. It would be unfair to all the entries that finished in time, and we’re obligated to a timeline by our sponsors.
We’ll probably skip a few years and try again in the future

Ok, fair enough… It’s 1:30 am in my TZ now, so I have time to grab some ZZZ and then still got time to do the writeup tomorrow :-)
It is still not very clear. The main page says “Entries must be received by October 31, 2012, 6AM GMT.” which was 12 hours ago…

The decision not to extend the deadline was fair enough, and I understand it even though I could have gained from it. However, the decision making process here could have been better.
First, you delay the decision to 12 hours AFTER the official deadline has passed, leaving all those who haven’t finished their project in limbo.
(I gave up working when the 6AM GMT deadline passed, not knowing whether you extend the deadline or not, assuming that if you do extend the deadline, those few hours would not matter.)
Then, 12 hours later, you extend it to midnight PST? If this was known in advance, I could have done something in those 24 hours, now more than half of this time has passed.
Also, I was really hoping for a contest next year so that all the work I’ve put into my project wouldn’t be for nothing…

Same here, I quit finishing my prototype and spent the last hours writing the article. With 24 additionnal hours I could have had both ready.
Sorry for the confusion. We want the competition to be informal and fun. Get the design in and as always we’ll let the judges sort it out.
I had to rush to get my project in on time, and ended up not having it completed when I entered it. I do not think it would be fair for those who already entered it for everybody else to have an extra week to polish their project. And there is (most likely) always next year.
