We were contacted by documentary crew to talk about the Shenzhen electronics markets because of our Huaqiangbei Geek Tour Video. This is filmed on the roof of MixC, a giant mall a few stops away from the market.
The project grew out of ‘The Light Bulb Conspiracy‘, a film which features a brief sequence about e-waste dumping. After the latter got a lot of strong viewer reactions, we felt it was time to dedicate a whole film to the issue…
ON THE E-WASTE TRAIL is an international co-production by Media 3.14 in Barcelona and Yuzu Productions in Paris. After development through a grant from the European Union, the documentary has now been commissioned by ARTE (Germany/France), TVC and TVE (Spain), in collaboration with Al Jazeera English (UK), TG4 (Ireland), SBS (Australia), RTBF (Belgium), NKR (Norway), SVT (Sweden), TSR (Switzerland), Lichpunt in Belgium and YLE (Finland).
Being in Shenzhen has opened up a lot of opportunities like this, its the place to be.
