We’re getting 10 to 20 spam comments a minute. I locked down links in comments. Sorry for any spammy comment notifications going out. No idea why a kismet isn’t working. Could be a hack. Will reinstall WordPress shortly.

It sounds like a xss attack that occurred on a server I was using about a month ago. WordPress + jQuery vulnerability was the root of the problem in this instance. They were using the server to spam and also trying to infect visitors.
FWIW, I experienced yesterday the same spammy comments that akismet could not prevent. I was getting 20+ per minute until I shut down comments. The plague seems to have passed over now.
