This video highlights another interesting frequency to try with your SDR dongle: 255 MHz. trylleklovn reports that, “Using gqrx with my newsky dvb-t dongle (rtlsdr) to listen to the geostationary SATCOM which is frequently utilized by Brazil radio pirates.”
Gqrx is a free and open source SDR for Linux and Mac designed by amateur radio operator Alexandru Csete, OZ9AEC. It was originally designed for use with the Funcube Dongle (FCD) and Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP) devices, and it apparently also works with the RTLSDR. It is powered by GNU Radio and the Qt GUI toolkit.

Judging from the lack of responses, some people “can’t talk” about their projects haha.
I’m using my RTLSDR to learn GNURadio and in the process implement a GFSK decoder that can detect and decode my 430Mhz home automation system. After that I want to write some code to scan a wide range of frequencies and take signal level reports on each one, to maybe spot band openings, tropo ducting events, meteor scatter etc.
I never hear anything on 255 mhz anymore. Used to listen to pirates in 2009 or so into 2011.
