Xilinx ISE Design Suite v 13.4 now available

Posted on Monday, January 23rd, 2012 in CPLD, FPGA, releases, software by the machinegeek

Xilinx has announced the availability of Version 13.4 of their ISE Design Suite. This download includes the free Webpack version of the ISE and is available for Windows and Linux. This release introduces their new MicroBlaze Micro Controller System (MCS), making a MicroBlaze-based processing system available in the ISE WebPACK edition.

This is the software package used to develop for our CPLD Development Boards.

Don’t want to download 5+ GB? No problem. Xilinx is making the software available for free in DVD form! (Currently they are taking pre-orders for 13.4 DVDs which will be available as of 2/1/12.)

Urgh. Xilinx ISE is one of those software packages which you should think very carefully about updating. I’m using XC9500XL parts, and support for those breaks more and more with each release.

Hmmm… Being in Indonesia, which is betterr? 1. Wait two months for a CD that may or may-not come in the mail, or 2. spend eight weeks trying to download five gigabytes through a sipping-straw Internet connection?
