
Tektronix has released thier new MDO4000, mixed domain oscilloscope, combining the standard digital storage oscilloscope, logic analyzer, and RF spectrum analyzer. this appears to do more than just save space on the workbench.
We do not have access to one for testing, but lets look at some the specs.
The MDO4000 series has 2-4 analog channels capable of 500MHz or 1GHz bandwidth, and sampling speeds of up to 5G samples second. 16 digital channels capable measuring 500M samples per second, and an RF section that has an range from 50KHz to 3 or 6GHz.
Modules are available for USB, RS232, SPI, I2C CAN, Ethernet, ETC.

dave might have an extra one laying around. . . he seems to have plenty of extra test equipment these days. . .you’d just need air fair to australia!
I would use it for everything/anything. A few months ago, I had never used a scope before, and didn’t know the awesomeness. Now, I don’t know how I’m going to live without one. Random example: how would I know the sequencing for a brushless DC motor driver is right without being able to see it? Or how would I know that my I2C bus is behaving? True RMS DMMs are nice, but they don’t tell you if your power supply is holding up or breaking under pressure.
To those of you who have never used a scope before, you need to find a way to get your hands on one. It will become your end-all tool for debugging ANYTHING.
Oh, and Tektronix makes a helluva scope!

because sometimes I need all 3 functions at once and be able to see all 3 screens at once
i have seen the demo videos and it will actualy show all three functions at the same time.
I would hack this and make it emulate an Arduino. Then I would make it blink a LED.

Dave Jones teardown video is a must see (links in the first post). The RF module at 15:25 in the video is as he says himself is almost pornographic :-) BTW: what is that long cylindrical component near the top left of the video?

Trust me guys. this thing is magic/wonderful. I’ve had the last 6 months using a MDO. Its the best thing to the market since sliced bread.
Of course I’d use that on my UAV projects. Scopes for the analog parts, including analog video feeds switching; logic analyzer to help debug communications with all sensors, SD card, USB, etc; and spectrum analyzer to assess radio performance.
i just used it to confirm that the receiver was working properly on an r/c copter
