Correct me if I’m wrong but none of the Spartans are 5v-tolerant. I think some of those input components must be a voltage divider or something…
It’s curious as far as trace length that the very farthest trace ALSO has some path length added.
It’s likely that the Spartan is not ‘programmable’ directly, in that it probably doesn’t have on-board Flash. The 5-pin is probably a JTAG for development and debugging, but I doubt you’d be able to permanently alter the Spartan.
Another detail: The Saleae products come in aluminum cases, not plastic as he said.
Haven’t the chance of hacking it up, but it all seems that this is a Spartan 3AN with builtin-memory, probably with autoerase if tried to dump the memory…
About the 5V, I remember that Xilinx does specify that there’re a couple of clamp diodes for the 5V inputs. So I think that the Seleae guys just followed Xilinx advice.
Would be interesting having the HDL available, as well as the PCB layout for Altium or PADS…
