While I love the idea of building a tesseract, using it as a night light is a TERRIBLE idea.
Blue lights are harmful to sleep cycles. This link is just one example of many describing the effects.
PLEASE, for the sake of your children, do some research on this before you subject them to blue LEDs all night.
Have you considered using a glass frosting paint on the enclosure? Compared to regular paint, it produces a much less opaque finish, but thanks to the diffusion effect should still hide your electronics.
Here in the UK, Plastikote make one with the imaginative name “Plastikote Glass Frosting Paint” – not sure what’s available you side of the pond, but I would guess any of the big chain hardware stores should carry it.
