Welcome to the world’s first 3D printed metal gun

3D Printed Metal Gun by Solid Concepts

and our ability to 3D Print the world’s first metal gun solidifies our standing. The gun is a classic 1911, a model that is at once timeless and public domain. It functions beautifully: Our resident gun expert has fired 50 successful rounds and hit a few bull’s eyes at over 30 yards. The gun is composed of 30+ 3D Printed components with 17-4 Stainless Steel and Inconel 625 materials. We completed it with a Selective Laser Sintered (SLS) 3D Printed hand grip, because we’re kind of crazy about 3D Printing.

  1. Just what America needs, more guns and easier access to them …hmm, did I hear something on the radio this morning about yet another mass shooting?

  2. Nah, it’s a professional powered metal stunt. I could buy that gun for $1000 (just a quick check online) but it probably cost $5000 to print like that. On a $100,000 machine that may require 3 phase power and a hard vacuum to operate.

    1. This is not about the price. Because this kind of stuff can give you something that money can hardly buy: UNTRACEABILITY!

      1. You don’t need a crazy expensive 3D printer to get that. Anybody can buy an 80% receiver and finish machining it with the supplied jigs. As SOI Sentinel said, this is purely a PR stunt by a 3D printer company.

  3. Am I the only one who would NOT like to read about weapons, and even more about DIY weapons, on a blog about electronics?

  4. Mmm, what’s not to love about a 1911! The world’s sexiest handgun in my opinion. Clearly a Series 70. But I’m walking away from this video very concerned. Mainly because the slide isn’t supposed to stick like that. Might just need to be oiled, might be the material it’s made out of…

You may now continue to your regularly scheduled gun safety complaints. AMERICA!

  5. Few people would have imagined the possibilities of 3D printing just a few years ago. Making a gun is an amazing feat – and it’s sure to scare some people.
