This is a great DIY hack…… You can use a machine pin DIP socket to do the same sort of thing…… as I have done successfully in the past. 99guspuppet

I don’t really see the point of all that hot glue. That thing is way bigger than it needs to be.
When I’ve had to use SMD parts on breadboards, I’ve just used machine pin DIP sockets, as Gus says.
Use a small amount of glue to attach the chip to the centre of the DIP socket, upside down if necessary. Then use very short lengths of thin bare wire (e.g. Kynar) to make the connections between chip and socket pins.
If for some reason you need it be REALLY robust, you could cover the connections with hot glue or epoxy.
Seems like the glue would make it difficult to replace the chip if you let the smoke out. I realize that it’s not always possible to obtain those tiny SMD-to-DIP PCB adaptors, but at least they make it easy to recycle the adaptor when you need to use it for a new chip. Then again, every idea has applications where it’s appropriate and those where it isn’t.
If you use hot glue…. the glue can be melted away
Melting it away it will remove the bulk but leave a thin film of glue over everything whici is not good
