Stephen Ong previously released this video demonstrating the use of RTL-SDR dongle with the BeagleBone dev board to function as a spectrum analyzer. The software making this possible is known as ViewRF and Stephen has now released the instructions and code links for this project.

To run the 7 inch LCD you don’t need the new Beaglebone Black – the older original Beaglebone will do fine. There may even be a few original ‘bones on sale now the new Black has been released.
Is there anything specific to this that requires the Black version?
wasnt original beagle 2-3x more expensive than black?
It was about $20 – $30 more depending where you live [postage & freight]. The new BBB is cheaper. I’d just like to find a valid, permanent setup that doesn’t need all the extras of the BBB, and give a old board a home.
Great!
Man, $150 bucks for this 7″ LCD Beagle cape? Wow!
lcd alone is ~$10-20 in china
you pay for convenience of plug and play dev board form factor
Yeah, $150 for an LCD. Pop Quiz:
Someone has a Kindle / Nook / Whatever clone. You can take off the backing plate, and beside replacing the battery you ALSO have access to Beaglebone-style expansion headers. All you need is a different backing plate, to house any custom board you choose to add.
Do you buy it – or insist everything be 2mm thick, Apple-knockoff style?
What software are you using to write the HMI?
