ARM board comparison chart


Avishay had been looking at several different ARM boards and wanted to find a comprehensive list of inexpensive boards. After viewing several lists which didn’t provide what he was looking for, he assembled this list of his own. It’s in tabular form, making it easy to compare board characteristics, and covers boards based on an ARM processor (but not the “microcontroller” Cortex-Mx flavor), costing $200 or less (advertised price for minimal configuration, excluding shipping and taxes), capable of running Linux and available for purchase in a single unit quantity.

  1. This list seems to be missing the chumby hacker board, adafruit still sells them, same price as the beagle bone which I happen to like better.

  2. I’d draw a distinction between boards using the ARM Cortex M series and the ones covered in this site. ARM Cortex M can’t run regular Linux due to lack of memory management hardware (although I believe uclinux can run on Cortex M4).

    I did not include any cortex-M boards at all, because they can’t run Linux.
    I’ll add the uputer, even though it seem like a naked MK802. As to the cubieboard, it doesn’t seem to be available anymore.

      Cubieboard got funded SEE: http://www.indiegogo.com/cubieboard DOUBLE the money sought. Multi-language documentation support is happening as I write here. So expect to see a fresh wave of cubieboards late December 2012.   4. Just saw the Wandboard, http://www.wandboard.org/ , which looks promising. Freescale i.MX6 (Cortex-A9), HDMI, gigabit LAN, GPIO for $69 (512MB ram) and $89 (dual core, 1GB, wifi+BT). It promises a ship date of late November, and also looks like it’s kind of supported, or at least being promoted on twitter, by Freescale.

    On the other hand, it’s not out yet, details of the Freescale i.MX6 are under an NDA until release or even later, and any kind of detailed information, schematics, OSHW status, source code, etc. for the Wandboard are unavailable until then too.
