We’ve been prototyping XT peripherals for old PCs, and discussing the possibility of building PCIe cards for modern computers. Out of curiosity we looked up 88086 and 8088 emulators, here’s a list of what we found:
- On Spartan2
- Wiki list of soft processors
- MSF is a FPGA board performing backup functions for a real 8088 chip
- Pac-man with 8088 core
- Various processors
- Complete 8088 under GPL (jackpot!)
- Zet processor can boot dos, freedos, windows, etc
Another one, referenced in many of the links above, used to appear at

But is now long gone, (even from http://www.archive.org), but I found a copy on many chinese sites.
99% of them want paid subscriptions to download files, but I found a single free copy:

We have just introduced the MicroCore Labs MCL86 which is a microsequencer based, cycle compatible soft IP 8088 8086 FPGA core. It has been ported to a Kintex-7 FPGA and adapted to a 40-pin header where is replaces the original 8088 on an IBM 5160 XT motherboard.
