I agree! That said. My question would be how would I take advantage of the speed and the extra capabilities of the PIC32 in my current arduinio projects? And since this is a closed board how could I transfer a working project to a custom board like I would with the regular arduino? I usually pull the chip and drop it into a custom board that has only what I need for the project.

We’ll take questions from anywhere, but the good discussion seems to be happening in the forum.
Is it a closed board? I downloaded Eagle docs for for both chipKIT Uno32 and Max32 – they are there in open. Arduino libs? – There is GitHub repo for it: https://github.com/chipKIT32.
My question is following: Arduino concept is very nice for the beginners, and frankly simplifies life for professionals. But as much as I love the easiness with which you can make a LED blink, I feel confined as soon as I need to deviate from setup/loop model. Powerful PIC32 inside chipKITs only stimulates this: for instance I’d like to use timer interrupts to run a background job. Now implementation of this kind of jobs is possible using timers directly, but it ruins nice Arduino abstraction. Don’t you want to pioneer some platform extensions for power users and promote it to Arduino community so that we all could benefit from it? If so, what areas do you think are most beneficial to develop?

The coupon was for free shipping only. There are free giveaways in the forums. The title of the article: “Microchip chipKIT giveaway and free shipping” means they are seperate instead of the same.
I used the coupon and I learned they were only giving free shipping so I cancelled my order because of the economy. Next week there will be another cool platform that will get my attention.
It is very nice they did it but just because someone puts out a platform with free shipping doesn’t mean that users who don’t know a lot can learn it because I don’t see a whole lot out there to learn the architecture of the new unit. The Maple Leaf is ARM, runs at 72 MHZ, has a dedicated forum and can use shields from the Arduino too.
The coupon works on the page where you select your payment method (Credit card/paypal/etc), not your shopping cart :)
