NEW PRODUCT: MMA7455L 3-axis accelerometer breakout board

MMA7455L is an inexpensive 3-axis accelerometer with adjustable measurement range of 2/4/8g. It can communicate with microcontrollers through an SPI or I2C interface.

This chip is only a few dollars in onesies, but it comes in a leadless LGA-14 package. It’s a challenging chip to solder, so we though a inexpensive breakout board might be useful.

  • 2/4/8g selectable
  • 10bit or 8bit output
  • force and pulse detection with interrupt
  • I2C and SPI interface
  • 3.3volts

What can you do with it? We’re using it to track hand motion with the USB POV Toy.

Get the MMA7455L breakout board for $15 at Seeed Studio. That’s about $5 cheaper than other accelerometer breakouts we’ve seen recently.

    Add 3-axis gyros, a 3-axis magnetometer and a microprocessor and we got ourselves an IMU. I wonder if I can track my location on the subway with a device like that. :)

      nope :-) , accelerometers are not that precise.
      I still wonder what would electric motors in subway do with the magnetometer

        I think problem can be solved with Kalman filtering? Accelerometer is there for only to compensate drag of gyros, but still lots of testing will go to that.

        From my graduation thesis, I can remember that they can affect big time or not affect that much. Depends on the position of the magnetometer relative to the motors.
