In this video from the Oracle Learning Library, Vinicius Senger and Marcelo Quinta demonstrate how to repurpose old Java ME mobile devices in hardware hacking projects. This talk, which was originally presented at last October’s Oracle Open World conference in San Francisco, concentrates on different ways to use Java ME for educational purposes, as well as examining the use of robotics and open source hardware, including Arduino, with Java ME.

Thinking about it, Java ME is like the predecessor to Android.
This video has zero info in it, its Oracle trying to emulate Google talks on the cheap by getting some brazillian hackers to talk about ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. Java stuff is fored in and takes maybe 2 minutes of the whole thing (They probly paid them extra to do anything with java).
Hehe, first i didn’t really get what you meant with “ANYTHING” and “EVERYTHING” — until i saw that the same Braziian guys made a presentation about making games and earning money with JavaME in the year 2011(!), running under the nomer OracleLearning. Oracle and Java, what a sad story…
I once tried to use java ME but it was poorly documented, which is a pity as there are tons of extremely cheap java ME compatible devices… mostly people don’t even want money for java ME compatible mobiles as they are considered trash these days though they still have some useful hardware that’s more than enough for most of your projects…
I wish it was as easy to use java ME as it is to write custom apps for android

What a load of bolloks but the idea it self looks solid when you know Java and have access to bulk of the old phones with JavaME support.
