On Tuesday I leave to spend a month working on new projects in Shenzhen. Here are the parts I’m taking with me. Everything could be bought there, but that would waste a ton of time. This a good assortment if small smd stuff. Resistor kit, key capacitor values, regulators, LEDs, a few chips, crystals, and connectors. Most of it is on our standard part list or on reels in the pick and place machine. What parts would you take?

Don’t forget to bring your own pic programmer :)
I’d bring a logic analyzer too, I’m sure you have a good one handy :-)
Sounds like an exciting trip! I’m hoping to spend a couple weeks to a month in Shenzhen before heading home from Asia this summer.
Hi Ian, So what projects are you working on that will take a month in Shenzhen? Enjoy the trip, be safe & do post updates when you can…
Almost Impossible to buy shoes larger than size 43 in China unless you buy a container.Buy a Shenzhen Tong bus and rail pass when you arrive so no need to buy a ticket each time. Weather has been great last few weeks. If you would like a factory tour send an email see what I can arrange.
How about a box of fake USB sticks you can sell on the streets of Shenzen for a profit? ;)
The problems are the stupidity in locating “Unique” items.
I needed something a simple as a ‘AMP’ connector to a specific pitch so I could tie into a custom JTAG connector on a PCB.
Could I find this in Shenzhen off the shelf amongst the hundreds of connector suppliers? no…..
More importantly is your visa and registering with the local Gong An, they are currently having a ‘crack down’ on unregistered foreigners in that area.(not that the visa is registered but that your stay location is…..),
Also ensure the visa is multi-entry so you can nip over the boarder to Sheung Shui for any Clothing/shoes/medical/dental /medicines…
And trust me when I say after a couple of weeks you WILL want to get out for a break…..
Because of my residency situation I usually only get 2 entry visas, but this time I fedexed my passport and got 1 year multiple entry this time sweet!
Honestly though I don’t Luke hong kong and Shenzhen has really grown on me. I really like it there, at least in the older more dense parts. Shekou(?) Was my worst nightmare though.
