    1. I guess you could try hacking into them :) Probably it’s cheaper to just pay the ticket for passing a red light (not that I’m advocating you should do that)

      No, actually I have listed a few common chips you would find on RGB LED strips. There are many different types on the market so knowing a bit about them can help you make a better choice.

  1. Well, i just checked them out.. this is very lovely in concept. so it can be used to build messaging systems or screens like VMS – variable messaging systems in traffic.. I get it. (pls correct me) To get my traffic lights working via arduino, I need to hookup 1 or more of the HL1606 or other controller via some impedance matching to power the larger powered single colour LEDs. All my app needs is off-flash-on sequence or these 3 states. Advice please..

  2. Hi~~ We also have some thing like this,But it need the power supply at least 12V.Is that your LED Strips can work at 5V?

  3. I ordered and received 3 spools of this lpd8806 strip for 117 bucks per spool at http://www.ledlightinghut.com/lpd8806-digital-led-strip.html . I got these all tested out and they are working great. I also hooked up two in series (both strips powered from both ends but data lines fed from one to the other) and the arduino controlled all lights with no problem in any of my lighting routines.

  4. Does anyone know of a non-rgb varient of these strips I want to cut cost and having multiple colours is a lot less important than having things be addressable

    1. Did you managed to find the non-rgb variant? I want to use the same but I did not found anything.
