A row of holes vs. a slot

My bonehead layout program does not support slots for component tabs.  So I'm wondering if I can specify a row of overlapping holes instead.  This begs the question of how close the centers can be so as to minimize 'teeth' inside the slot.  I can make an oval (actually obround) pad with a center hole, then specify one or two additional holes each side of center, per the attached sketch.  Can the drill bit come down near the edge of an existing hole without 'wandering' or otherwise incurring the wrath of the fabrication team?

Hi Electrojim,

Drilling overlapping holes is not advisable. Please draw an outline for the slot using border layer instead, like your routing your board edges.
