Big Box Of Components U.S.A.

Postby systemstech » Mon Nov 26, 2012 9:28 am

Hi everyone,

It's Time to start a U.S. only box of Components. Same rules as before.

Rules:
- Take the Components out you can really can use.
- Replace them with Components you can't use (please add an equal amount of stuff)
- Send the box to the next random* person within a week.
- post a picture of what you got out of it and a small description what you are planning to do with
- No address information in this topic Please use the PM system for this

*Random not the two individuals before you and not necessarily the one after you. Also try to send it to someone who hasn't had a turn yet. Well you know what I mean so just send it.

So... not sure I understand here... we're not following list order, but instead choosing someone from anywhere on the list to send to...? Any tracking to make sure PersonA doesn't get it 5 times while PersonB hasn't seen it once, for example? Just as a thought, how about following the list as in order of signup. Once someone gets the box they fall off the list. They then can't request to be added back for x days. They can then request to be added to the end. This will help randomize somewhat by allowing others to enter the list between when they had it and when requesting to be re-added.

I'll be the first to admit, my suggestion sounds a little unpolished, but "random" selection from the list seems prone to issues down the road.

I wanted to make sure I'm on both lists... and I agree, "random" see's like it's going to create problems unless someone is closely tracking this.

Why not just run the current ordering through a random number generator and then create the static list that way?

If we start the components list at the top and the parts list at the bottom then the guy at the middle gets hit with shipping two boxes and that's not fare almost $30. I don't care how we do this but we must make sure that no one gets stuck paying shipping twice.

We still have lots of time, there are 10 people in front of me waiting for the box of parts. 10 weeks. If some one would like to help out and take over managing this list it would be a great help.

One more stop for the parts box before going back to systemstech, then the components box will be starting it's journey. :)

Been a couple months, but figured I'd drop you a thanks for the add ST. If we ever find the heathkid and the box again, I would also be willing to do the split as a second incase drjeseuss is unable at that time. I will pm you personal details so I'm less of a wild card.
