the price is reasonable, but make sure they are labeled.

That is a pretty decent kit, at a reasonable price. I find most of the eBay kits pretty lacking, I buy one with 100 resistors and 50 capacitor values, but they always seem to lack an important range. The ones pppd got me in Poland were the most complete I've ever seen (probably was E24).

This may be handy for people starting with smd.
Here's a document with info about all available smd IC packages:

Anyone bought components off Aliexpress?? I am seeing many of these 177valuesx25pcs kits on Aliexpress. I am wondering if I should try them out. Any one has had experience with them?

Here's a link to one..

I've bought quite a few things from AliExpress. Most recently:

HOT SALE, QUICK RELEASE ALUMINIUM METAL CLAMP, HOSE CLAMP, TABLE VICE Language Option French :-) $23
10x HT1632C Driver Chip for LED Dot Matrix Unit Board 256 kHz -10000183 $12.83
10x New Arrival HOt sale sync & Changer Micro USB Cable Data Cable For htc for blackberry etc micro usb mobile phone $2.50
50 x 2.54mm Right Angle Male Single Row Pin Header Connectors $6.99
100pcs 32.768KHz 32.768K 2*6MM Crystal Oscillators $4.82
50pcs Tantalum Capacitor 10uf 16v 3216 A $6.31
50pcs 2.0mm 40Pin Single Row Pin Header Strip $7.58
100pcs 2mm 40pin Single Row Pin header Female high qulity Copper $22.00
100pcs Tantalum Capacitor 22UF 10V 3216 A TAJA226K010RNJ AVX 1206 $15.79

No problems at all. Just bear in mind that some sellers have _no_ idea what they're actually selling. Pictures are often more helpful than Engrish descriptions as per the suction cupped table vice I listed above.

As for your 0805 kit, see instead the eBay version for approx half the AliExpress price: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/0805-SMD-res ... 27c46bfe83

Does anyone know of any fairly inexpensive 1% 0805 kits like the one linked to on ebay above? The only ones I've seen (other than expensive ones by distributors) are 5%. It'd be really nice to have a kit of 1% for making some semi-precise analog circuits.

This doesn't look too bad, but suffers from the goofy gaps described (some E-24 values, some E-96). $50 after shipping. . .already in a binder. . .

On the higher end, here's a half E-48 kit (same coverage as E-24 with different values) with a nice enclosure. Although the $100 price tag is a bit hard to swallow for resistors at first, buying the same raw resistor values from a distributor @ 100 pc pricing would be more (and it wouldn't come with a nice enclosure).

A "proper" E-96 kit runs more than your average hobby oscilloscope :(

Also, here's a handy chart that covers the EIA decade tables.

Any suggestions?

Your first link seems a very good deal. I have a 1% E-24 kit and I'm getting good at building 0805 tents, soldering two resistors in series on one set of pads. :)

I posted a blog entry "Learning Surface Mount Soldering by Experience" a while back.
