You've changed my mind, instead I will purchase a new soic 8 clip without soldered cables - less hassle ;)
The one I'm looking at has cabling length of 33cm , would it be OK to use at 1Mhz?

33 cm is way too long, I expect it to fail. 10 cm is the upper limit for reliable communication. You could shorten the longer cable to avoid problems.

Hi, i've bought a new Pomona 5250 with short adjustable wires. However, the bios chip is not being detected in flashrom.
I have attached photos of the connections used. Would you be so kind to have a look and let me know what i need to modify? (White wire corresponds to CS on both Buspirate and bios chip for orientation purposes) Let me know if you need any more info. Thank you so much, Nabs.

The bios chip has been detected! I'm so happy, it's taken me a month and a half but i'm almost there! :)

For those attempting this in the future, what worked was to connect the four signal pins to their counterparts (CS, MISO, MOSI, CLK), Ground to Ground, and also Vcc to 3V3, and disconnect the AC power and remove the laptop battery.

It's currently "Reading flash..."
