BusPirate 4v2 - Sick of Beige

I wanted a BPv4, and I thought I'd update it for the 'Sick of Beige' case series.

I chose the DP6037 footprint. I had to bring the IO connector in a bit, but otherwise, it fit pretty well. I had to move a few vias and things near the keepout areas, as well. I updated the date (2012 Sept from 2010 Jun) and updated the version number (4v2 from 4v1). The IO connector will be right near the edge, but I don't know how much clearance will be needed between the board and the top of any case in order to make the push buttons accessible. It probably needs some further refinement.

I'm thinking of making a Seeed Fusion order. PM me if you would be interested in a spare PCB, if I have any.

Caveat: These files are in Eagle 6.2.0 format.

[edit: deleted attachments, should have found ones in SVN instead]

Great work, although there already is a dp6037 BP v4 available in our SVN. the v4c is on a sick of beige board. And it should be coming when the next batch of BP v4s comes out. There will also be a case design to go along with it.

Yups - please take a look at v4.c or v4.1 - everythign between v3.6 and v4 is perfectly aligned so cases with light pipes, etc can all be reused between versions.

Ah, I didn't think to check the SVN, just the blog and the wiki.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll ditch this design and start with the one I find there.

So it turns out I was making this based on the latest boards in the 'Bus Pirate' SVN repo ( http://code.google.com/p/the-bus-pirate ... dware%2Fv4 ), but there already was a Sick of Beige version (v4c) in the 'Dangerous Prototypes' SVN repo (http://code.google.com/p/dangerous-prot ... dware%2Fv4). Whoops.

So, forget my version, please, it is nothing special, and doesn't necessarily match the footprints of the others (in terms of LED, switch, and connector position). Nevertheless, I want to order a batch of canonical v4c PCBs, which I can send to anyone for $4 or $5.

Options: If we want them to be red, it will be $5, if green is okay, $4.
I might be able to panelize them, if enough people are interested, which will also help lower the cost. This means I'll have to cut them on my band saw, which may slightly affect the quality of the nice rounded edge (since I'm not a CNC machine).

Feel free to debate the color here, I will assume green unless, overwhelmingly, people want red.

PM me if you're interested, and let me know what colors are okay, and whether a panelized version is okay.

I would like to get the order out in the next week or so.

Could be very interresting, but how about sourcing the parts?, I guess for me it would be kinda expensive to get the parts alone for this one?

There have been a lot of questions about international shipping. I will be sending the boards international air mail, first class, n a envelope taped to some cardstock. The cost difference is surprisingly small, and I'm willing to eat it.

This approach doesn't work for sending more then two boards, though.

Color is not a big deal to me.

I suppose we could look at a group parts order, I suspect the number of parts ordered wouldn't be enough to make it a huge difference in the cost. But it might worth doing the sums.

How many boards are you going to order?

I order from digikey about twice a month for a whole lab so a group order is not all that relevant to me, but keep in mind that high shipping fees may apply if you order small quantities (i.e. below some threshold at which free shipping applies). Therefore a group order may be interesting to some. On the other hand, splitting up the group order can be quite a pain...

Matt

Sorry schazamp if I have not responded to PMs. My account was purged by the boards anti-spam mechanism since I created an account and did not post within 24 hours. This should fix that. :-)

Yeah I had same problem, so if You've replied to my msg, schazamp, then please send it again.

And I'm into group digikey order since It'd be hard for me to buy this parts with exact footprint here.
But I'd rather buy selected parts only than all of them ;)

I will look into a BOM at Mouser or Digikey, but I already have most of the parts I need, and trying to coordinate a group order (esp. if different people want different parts) is more complexity than I'm prepared to commit to now.

I have about 22 folks interested, so I will be ordering 30 boards (or maybe 40, if I can fit them), and there are enough to order red, if I panelize them and cut them myself, at $4 each, shipped. There will be a few extras, so I can take a few more orders; I'll post when I'm out.

For those who prefer non-home-cut, I'll be PMing you to make sure you still want in.

I'll let you all know the payment info, with a reminder when I'm ready to ship.

Thanks for chipping in!

Red is nicer, but it doesn't really matter for me. Also home cut is OK.

Thank you schazamp!

PS. about the payment - what are the options? International bank transfer will cost more than the board. So paypal?

I made a cart. It is likely to have mistakes. I am unsure if the tact switch will fit. Also not sure about the PNPs and if the shrouded header is correct. And probably a few other things I don't remember :)

scaling it up by 30 saves $4 each, which barely justifies re-shipping things out.
