http://dirtypcbs.com/

We had a weekend hack-a-thon and came up with a submission portal and work for for cheap PCBs using the Dirt Cheap Dirty PCBs joke mentioned a few posts back.

I don't intend to jump into the cheap PCB game, there's not really any money in it and Seeed already does it, but this was a fun weekend hack project. The code will be recycled for an upcoming engineering project we're working on so you'll probably see it again soon.

Its also design challenge to eliminate all the things we hate about online stores and ordering PCBs today:
*Single page order. Upload PCBs and then make payment, that's it
*No login to remember. If you set a password now, you can auto load details next time, but there's no login, reset password, any of that crap
*Check order status without login, just click a link
*Constant, clear order progress updates (with SMS gateway too! but we're not paying for it yet...)
*Shipping options (not enabled) to price cheap (Hong Kong/Singapore post ~ $5) or fast (DHL/Fedex/UPS ~$20) shipping at actual cost based on board size

I would appreciate it if a few forum regulars wanted to give it a try, just to see how you like it and how the system works. Prices are:

$12 5x5cm, any color, 10 copies, 100% etest, includes world wide shipping
$24 10x10cm, any color, 10 copies, 100% etest, includes world wide shipping

Tolerances, shipping stuff, etc can be found on the about page:

http://dirtypcbs.com/about.php

If it goes to hell I'll happily refund your money, just looking for some feedback and extra live testing on the code.

Cool :-)

I'm doing some PCB's this weekend so I'll give it a whirl then :-)

Can I suggest you add www.circuitpeople.com to your list of gerber viewers

I'm trying to give it a go, but so far I'm always getting "GML file missing units". I'm using an old project of mine, with gerber files that worked with seeed, elecrow and OSH Park.

I'm still looking in EAGLE, trying to figure out a way to add units, but there don't seem to be any checkboxes related to this.

KiCads GerberViewer displays everything correctly.

EDIT:
This is the begining of my GML file:
Code: Select all

%OFA0B0*%
%FSLAX24Y24*%
%IPPOS*%

Best cheap PCB service

"No bull, just crappy PCBs" LOL, you should get at woot.com

I'll submit something tonight, perhaps it will pop out while I'm in sz and you can save on the shipping.

Yeah, I'm having the same problem. I haven't found a fix yet although I've tried a few things like including G70 which is supposed to say that the units for the gerber are inches. The gerbers I'm trying already had an INCHES keyword but that didn't help either. The gerbers view fine in several gerber viewers.

If someone has a working GML, could you post the first couple of lines? That way we could compare and figure out what is missing in ours.

Wow, thanks everyone.

Could you please attach the full .zip here, or PM it to me? I'll process it locally and tune the gerber processor. It was a midnight sprint writing it, so rough and ready doesn't even begin to describe :)

It should process boards with a G70* and G71*, however I have only been able to test with inch unit boards because that's what eagle makes (even if you tweak it , seemingly...). I didn't realize MOIN and MOMM were units without the G code, that is included now if anyone wants to give it a spin. If it doesn't work I can disable the requirement until there are a variety of gerber submissions to test with.

Thanks again to everyone who helped test.

Circuit people is added, cool!

The site should recognize the units in GMLs now, I updated the code and did some tests.

I've tried twice, it switches to process.php and I get nothing back.

Tested with toms files and found that I only coded for GML outline and not GKO, added and seems to test ok.

Looks like the problem was that I forgot the * at the end of G70*. That seems to fix the GML file. Now the order went through.

Thanks Scott! Your files helped me find a matching bug that didn't get the size of your PCB right. Fixed now.

Did you have to add it manually? I'm currently accounting for G70* G71* %MOIN*% %MOMM*%, I notice your GML has "INCH", I'll add that too. Is there a metric equivalent (MM)?
