pic16f2550 minimal board giveway

Postby criss.ml » Sat Jul 15, 2017 11:14 am

hello everyone:

a couple years ago , i made this small board, and still have around 100 bare pcb laying around.
i'm practically giving them away on tindie...( or send me a pm)
https://www.tindie.com/products/6439/

its very nice because:

- you can see all pin labels saving you some time.
-you can order the chip as a free sample from Microchip.
-the connector for the programmer is ready to plugin
-usb connector too

the domain is out of service, but the schematic is available on tindie.
Cheers.

I bought a couple of these a couple of years ago - they were great value then, but even better value now!

JAL source code and program HEX files for this dev board which I used after assembly to ensure all was working.

18f2550_blink.jal.txt
Blinks red LED on RB7/PGD (JAL source code - remove .txt)
(1.9 KiB) Downloaded 9 times

18f2550_blink.hex.txt
Blinks red LED on RB7/PGD (HEX file - remove .txt)
(338 Bytes) Downloaded 8 times

18f2550_pintest.jal.txt
Pulses all pins on Ports A, B, C (JAL source code - remove .txt)
(2.05 KiB) Downloaded 8 times

18f2550_pintest.hex.txt
Pulses all pins on Ports A, B, C (HEX file - remove .txt)
(387 Bytes) Downloaded 7 times

I have been thinking about looking into pic microcontrollers for a while. A few of those PCBs would be good start, so I ordered some. Thanks!

It's OK - I ordered a couple more from Tindie last week and you shipped them yesterday - they're almost free anyway :)

A quick question. Do you have a Bill of Materials. What components do I need to assemble one unit?

Bill of Materials (from my reference wiki - possibly created from the schematic)

IC1 - PIC18F2550 or PIC18LF2550
C1 - 1uF tantalum capacitor
C3, C4 - 15pF ceramic 1206 capacitors
C7 - 100nF ceramic 1206 capacitor
R2 - 4.7K 1206 resistor
R3 - 1K 1206 resistor
X1 - SMD mini USB connector
LED - red 1206 LED
SMD 4mm x 3mm nano tactile switch
SMD HC49S 12MHz crystal

all resistors , leds and caps are 1206..
the usb connector is the cheapest chinesse version.
and the the crystal is standard smd package

all component are DIRTY Cheap..

Thank you. I see you have shipped the PCBs. I've ordered all the components and some free samples.

I should note that as well as the PIC18F2550 you can also use the more modern (and cheaper) PIC18F25K50 which is pin compatible. The Blink test hex file I posted above also works (programmed with MCHIP IPE and PICkit3 - it did complain about a config bit, but updated it itself).

Note: FLASH memory endurance for the 25K50 part is only 10K vs the 2550 part which is 100K but that shouldn't matter unless you want to spend your life reprogramming the chip :-)
