Looks like my self test failed, but only on MOSI.  Any suggestions?

Hi r0unin,

The pin failed to go high on it's own, and then failed to be high when the pull-up resistors were activated. Unfortunately it's probably a faulty pin, either because of a fault with the chip, or damage during a short circuit.

You can verify this by going into raw3wire mode (choose normal output type), then type the minus character (-) followed by enter. Use a multimeter to measure the voltage level on the MOSI pin, it should be 3.3volts.

hi timwv - It looks like you didn't connect Vpu to +5V, and ADC to +3.3V. The ADC and Vpu show no voltage, and tghe hi-z (pullup) pin test failed.

I think your board probably does work. These errors are normal if you didn't connect the header pins before the self-test.

Did you connect the Vpu pin to +5V pin, and ADC pin  to +3.3V pin as shown in the attached diagram, also here:
http://dangerousprototypes.com/bus-pirate-manual/#ioheader

I'm not sure of any other modes of failure that would cause this.

Was it preorder 2 or 3?

There was a reel of LEDs with dirty contacts that went out. Touching a soldering iron to either side will probably fix it:

http://dangerousprototypes.com/2010/01/14/bus-pirate-v3-preorder-2-broken-led-fix/

Let me know if you'd like a repair or spare parts, Seeed is aware of the issue and will repair or replace.

Hi this is my first post. My BusPirate just arrived. Im pretty new to this all, and it's gonna be a tight learning curve.

Self-test results seem good. I have seen PWR, MODE and VREG leds work, but haven't seen USB work?
Should it blink each time i perform a command, connect to the terminal or replug the buspirate into USB?
The green dot on the led faces the mini usb, not the header side.

Just did a firmware upgrade to 3.6. It needed a couple of flashes to get it right. After the first flash i couldn't connect, then i tried running the .hex backup i made before the flash, that gave 2 sectors which wouldn't verify after write. Then i tried the new 3.6 again, double erase and program, and finally it worked.

Here's is the new log, i still haven't seen the USB led on or blinking?;

MODE and VREG LEDs should be on! Any key exits.

/edit 2
I've added a splash of solder to both sides of the led. The green dotted side didn't have too many on it for sure,
and Voila! USB LED now blinks :D

Glad you got it, I'm sorry the LED wasn't soldered properly.

You're correct, the USB LED faces the opposite direction as the other LEDs.

The verify errors are probably just the normal errors in the bootloader and at the last page of memory. The upgrade to the v4 bootloader solves these issues.
