Orange Light always on - Update of firm brings no solution

Yesterday, I got the USB IRToy V2 and I succeeded to load the firmware and run Winlirc to record a remote control. And all worked. The Interrupt code was 8.

Today, I wanted to record another remote control, but USB IRToy did not longer work. What I recognized is, that the orange light always is burning, no matter if I connect PGD and PGC or not.

The device manager shows under HID the interrupt code 8 and another entry under this group named USB Input Device with an exclamation mark.  Here the Port reads: Port_#0001.Hub_#0004.

What should I do?

Thank you for any help.

@ Manitu

thank you for your reply. As I wrote, I have already tried to update the firmware. But that didn't solve the problem.

Today, when I try it again, I get the following:

I set the jumper on the USB IRToy and connect it to my pc. The windows device manager reports unter Human Interface Device
amongst other lines

1. a line reading, USB Human Interface Device. A klick an this line shows the properties: Port_#0008 hub_#0004 and the status "the device wordk correctly".

2. a line with an exclamation mark and the ID USB Input device. A klick to this line reports Port_#0001 Hub_#0004 and the status "the device cannot be startet (Code 10)".

nevertheless I run the update of the firmware an get the following:

D:InstallsUSB IR ToyUSBIRToy.package.v22firmware>fw_update -e -w -v -m flash
 -vid 0x04D8 -pid 0xFD0B -ix USBIRToy.v22.hex

 -vid 0x04D8 -pid 0xFD0B -ix USBIRToy.v22.hex

D:InstallsUSB IR ToyUSBIRToy.package.v22firmware>pause
Drücken Sie eine beliebige Taste . . .

what can I do, to solve the problem?

Thank you for any help.

I have done some more testing and want to report my results.

1. I changed from my windows 7 pc to a windows xp pc. There I plugged the jumper, attached the USB Toy and could run the firmware update (the orange light was burning) successfully.  The port I used was 0.

2. I unplugged the USB Toy and removed the jumper.

3. I reconnected the toy to the win7 pc and startet there winlirc without success. Therefore, I wanted to load the firmware on my win xp pc again. However, I didn't succeed. I had to use another USB slot and then I could run the firmware update again.
(Why couldn't I use the same slot, as the first time???)

4. I unplugged the toy, removed the jumper and repluged it to the win xp pc.

5. now I start WINLIRC, set the comport to 12 (I also see com12 in the device Manager) and klicked "Create CONFIG". I see a very short time a DOS window, which immediately closes. However, the orange light is now off.

What shall I do now?

Thank you for your help

Try closing winlirc and opening IRGraph
You should be able to view remote signals if everything is working correctly

sorry, I do not find the IRGRAPH Program. When I click the URL

http://dangerousprototypes.com/docs/USB ... visualizer

(USB IR Toy: Configure WinLIRC) and I go down to "USB IR Toy: Configure WinLIRC"
I see the Link Download irGraph from WinLIRC.
But what I get is

foo_lirc_0.5.0a_bin.zip    2014-02-19    59.5 kB    77 weekly downloads    i
XBMC_Keymap.zip    2013-12-21    239.3 kB    3636 weekly downloads    i

and the file foo_lirc_0.5... ohnly has 2 files reading foo_lirc.dll and Readme.txt.

Where can I find the irGraph program?

Its bundled with winlirc, you don't need to download anything separately

@ Dukey

thank you for your reply. Now I found the program and when I start it, I can press all the keys of my Pioineer remote control (for PD Player 333) and I always see a differentr graph.

However, when I then start winlirc and want to learn the same keys, I get problems. The program terminates, closes the window where I enter the keyname etc. But this seems to be a problem of winlirc. I am going to look there.

What I now even succeed to do is, connect the Toy to my win xp pc and also to my win7 pc. Finaly, the drive manager always must show an entry under Connections (COM and LPT). I don't know, wy this didn't work before.

One final question: is it true, that after I have loaded the latest firmware I do not have to load it again, even if I unplug the USB IRToy?

Thank you for your help.

run irrecord from command line
IRRecord.exe -d IRToy.dll ..config.cfg

For learning its best to have the remote as close as possible to the receiver, less interference

I could start the irrecord program and first, i had to press 2x80 buttons. Then the keyname was requested and the first button worked. But when I entered the 2nd button name and pressed the key, I got the message

Something went wrong. Please try again (9 retries left).

a 2nd press of the button seemed to work. I enter the 3rd name of a button and get the message

somthing went wrong. irrecord.exec: could not reset hardware.

Then irrecord terminates.

Any ideas?

Try the -f command line option it will just capture raw signals and not try to decode them

@ dukey

When I enter today after starting my pc:

irrecord.exe -f -d irtoy.dll d:configt3.cfg

I get the message

irrecord.exe: could not init hardware (lircd running ? --> close it, check permissions)

I loaded the firmware again (unplugged IRToy, set thejumpers, plugged it again, loaded firm, unplugged it, removed the jumper, plugged it again). Same message.

Finally, I startet Winlirc, set there the COM12 Port (found in device manager)  and tried to record new keys but cancelled.

Then I started the command line again, started to press the 2x80 keys, but after 30 points are shown I get the message
irrecord: no data for 10 secs, aborint
irrecord: gap not found, can't continue.

Of course, there was no pause longer than 10 secs between the key presses. I tried it multiple times.

More ideas?

And another question: how shall I begin after I have startet my computer the next day? Do I have to load the firmware again?
Do I have to start first WINLIRC, terminate it and the run irrecord?

Thank you for your help

What firmware version do you have installed ? The last stable version I tested was v22

Re: Orange Light always on - Update of firm brings no soluti

yes, I also use v22.  I even downloaded the the package again and checked the MD5 (no, the other shid-1) value. It was ok.

And when I run the firmware update I get the following messages
(I enter: update--usbirtoy.v22.bat)

D:USB IRToyUSBIRToy.package.v22firmware>update-usbirtoy.v22.bat

D:USB IRToyUSBIRToy.package.v22firmware>set /P INPUT=Enter Com Port Number
Enter Com Port Number 1

D:USB IRToyUSBIRToy.package.v22firmware>ECHO Once the device has entered boot
 loader mode
Once the device has entered boot loader mode

D:USB IRToyUSBIRToy.package.v22firmware>pause
Drücken Sie eine beliebige Taste . . .

D:USB IRToyUSBIRToy.package.v22firmware>fw_update -e -w -v -m flash -vid 0x04
D8 -pid 0xFD0B -ix USBIRToy.v22.hex
U2IO flash erasing: DONE.
U2IO flash programming: DONE.
U2IO flash verifying: DONE.
RESET Device
Operation successfully completed.

D:USB IRToyUSBIRToy.package.v22firmware>pause
Drücken Sie eine beliebige Taste . . .

D:USB IRToyUSBIRToy.package.v22firmware>

What I wonder a bit is, that I enter a comport number "1". But I have read, that for loading the firmware, no comport is needet because the IRToy is seens as a HID.

And I also tried some days before to run the selftest. But this brought the always the Error FA10.

Does it work okay with other softare?
like the record/play software that comes with the irtoy ?
it might be a winlirc bug, or something funky with that device
