POTONG6 - Potentiometer & Slide switch breakout November 28, 2013, 06:31:37 am This is just a small utility board that I added to a previous batch of PCBs. Nothing fancy at all. :-)Sometimes I need a pot or two when I test a design on a solderless breadboard and it's always a PITA to fit the pots into the breadboard, same thing with switches. So I made the POTONG6 that is a SOB DP8049-sized breakout board with six small (10x10mm) potentiometers and six small slide switches for easy connection to a breadboard. As can be seen in the picture there's a lot of jumpers on the board. Each pot can have its terminals jumpered to vcc & gnd and only have the wiper connected to the breadboard (good when you only want a variable voltage), or all three terminals can be accessed individually.Same thing with the switches. Either connected to vcc/gnd via resistors and you only connect the common to the breadboard or remove the jumpers and have access to all three terminals.Files available at my github as usual. https://github.com/SmallRoomLabs/potong[attachment=0] Last Edit: January 01, 1970, 01:00:00 am by Guest
Re: POTONG6 - Potentiometer & Slide switch breakout Reply #1 – November 28, 2013, 02:06:20 pm Apparently I have a problem telling what's left and what's right :-) The pots have the left/right terminals reversed.... Very el-stupido of me.... Last Edit: January 01, 1970, 01:00:00 am by Guest
Re: POTONG6 - Potentiometer & Slide switch breakout Reply #2 – November 28, 2013, 04:09:14 pm Looks really convenient and a good board. The "potong" in Potong6 sounds like "cut"? So indeed, it did "potong" a lot of time to do the interfacing to a microcontroller. :) Last Edit: January 01, 1970, 01:00:00 am by Guest
Re: POTONG6 - Potentiometer & Slide switch breakout Reply #3 – November 28, 2013, 04:38:32 pm Yea, the name is a play with words. POT as in "potentiometer", and then POTONG as in the Malay word "cut" - in this case cut down the time to do something. Probably not the correct usage of "potong" - my guess is that can only be used for really cutting down the length of things. Like long bars of aiskrim - and you non-Malays can guess what aiskrim is - just try to pronounce it and you'll know :-)And by the way - the potentiometers are from Taobao - I paid USD 0.05 each for them so I got myself a bag of 250 of them for future use... Re: POTONG6 - Potentiometer & Slide switch breakout Reply #6 – November 28, 2013, 05:46:01 pm Hi, yes, please post link to where you got the pots if you can. From the scale of the other components on the board they look pretty compact, just what I'm looking for.[UPDATE] Thanks for the link! Re: POTONG6 - Potentiometer & Slide switch breakout Reply #7 – November 28, 2013, 07:59:29 pm wow, great prices! have been searching on ebay after potmeters similar to these, but I mostly only find those with solder-ears straight out, not those for pcb mounting.. or maybe they have an special name.. Re: POTONG6 - Potentiometer & Slide switch breakout Reply #9 – November 29, 2013, 06:08:36 pm Yeah quite amazing prices. How do those switches feel, are they a reasonable contact? How do you find out the postage cost in Taobao? Last Edit: January 01, 1970, 01:00:00 am by Guest
