I think it's bricked

Hi,

During the process of updating my board (from Windows 7) I received an error and the process aborted. After this error the COM port disappeared and I can't get it back. I've tried the jumper between the PGC and PGD pins of the ICSP header and updating under both Windows and Linux, but I just can't get the firmware to take. How can I bring my board back to life?

Here is what I tried under Linux:
Code: [Select]
# fw_update -e -w -m flash -vid 0x04d8 -pid 0xfc90 -ix PIC_firmware/OLSv1.firmware.v3.0.hex
U2IO flash erasing: FAILED.
Device is not found.
Operation aborted.

Listing USB devices displays:

Code: [Select]
Bus 004 Device 006: ID 04d8:fc90 Microchip Technology, Inc.

When I plug the board into the USB port and short the appropriate jumper pins, the system log show:
Code: [Select]
usb 4-2: >new full-speed USB device number 2 using uhci_hcd
usb 4-2: >New USB device found, idVendor=04d8, idProduct=fc90
usb 4-2: >New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0
usb 4-2: >Product: Diolan
usb 4-2: >Manufacturer: Diolan
hid-generic 0003:04D8:FC90.0004: >hidraw3: USB HID v1.01 Device [Diolan Diolan] on usb-0000:00:1d.2-2/input0

Okay, the problem updating under Linux was due to not having appropriate permissions. Running fw_update as root did the trick.
