Title: Castellation?
Post by: cybin on June 07, 2016, 06:01:23 pm
Are castellated edges OK? That is a plated through hole is deliberately placed along the board edge as an solderable edge connect.

I'm doubt they're supported but I've sent them a few - they've worked OK so far but don't look great.

This pic shows one that needs cleaning out but you can see it's a bit iffy looking.

My last board turned out OK.

But not brilliant on the castellation as the copper edge had some of the routed portion still attached. The mask was miss-aligned, but I can live with all of this for the spec, price and speed provided.

Can you share the gerber or provide the screenshots from the pcb cad package?

I'm thinking about designing a board, but a bit anxious as you classify it as iffy :D

I asked about this on the forum and was told it would be okay.  So I designed my board with 6 holes centred exactly on the edge, so that the board cutter would slice them in half, just as seen in those photos.  Worked perfectly and came back exactly as I expected.
