I have a usb ir toy v2. it never worked, but I thought I would see if I can reinstall the firmware. I jumpered the two pins and the light came on. excellent
so I am trying to follow the instructions,
the toy is at port_#0002.Hub#0003 (good, its showing up)
im running update-USBIRToy.v22 (windows batch file)
it opens the window, and asks me what port its on.
I have tried #0002, 2, 0002, port_#0002.Hub#0003, and many others.
I always get:

I have installed the .inf driver in windows. which has apparently "determined that the driver software for your device is up to date".
im running windows 8.1 64bit on a slate pc, windows 7 64bit on a desktop, and windows 7 32bit on a laptop. I get the same on all of them.
if I remove the jumper, the orange light will sometimes go off (and stays off when plugged into another computer) when moving it between computers, I think it may be something to do with sleep mode on my tablet. when the light is off it does not show up as a device at all.
im keen to use this to analise IR codes. I would really like to get it working. especially since I spent more on shipping than the device

What command did you run to update the fw?
On windows, just copy the command shown on the fw update page.
I don't know what command to run. I know little about this kind of thing. I barely know what a code is in this case. I'm a very new Newby just trying to learn.
I just clicked on the file: Update-usbirtoy.v22 from the what I read, I thought that would load the firmware into my USB irtoy v2
Could you please help me understand the correct procedure?

This is what I did. I jumpered pgc/pgd, connected it via USB to my computer, ran the .bat file corresponding to the firmware I wanted to upgrade (v22).

More info. When I look at the device manager event list I see that the device cannot start. Below are the details copied from windows device manager. I hope it is of some use

There should be a batch file in the download with the following window batch file: (update-USBIRToy.v22)

Just make sure the USBIRToy.v22.hex file is in the same directory .
If you jumper and have the LED on, then just hit return when prompted for the COM port. (This is likely your mistake.)
It is in the same folder. I'm opening that file and it asking me for a port number. I have also tried opening fw_update.exe (a program) to see what it does but after giving permission it opens what looks like command prompt and then immediately closes
I have also tried opening bootloader (which seems to be a a.exe too) with the same result as fw_update
just run the command:
fw_update -e -w -v -m flash -vid 0x04D8 -pid 0xFD0B -ix USBIRToy.v22.hex
but first make sure the IR Toy is plugged in after jumpering with the LEd on.
If that doesnt work, the only thing I can think of is if you have the wrong driver installed. Maybe uninstall & re-install the correct drivers. (Verify manufacturer as DP, PID & VID as above)
After that it sounds like faulty hardware (or maybe just user error) & you should contact your supplier directly for support.
Run it in what? The fw_update program closes before I can do anything. And the command doesn't work in command prompt. As for drivers it says it only needs the .ini file which is correct.
open a command prompt window and run the command from there.
But first make sure you change to the directory with the exe & the .hex file in it. At least then you should see what is going wrong.

If this is correct, then you are likely doing something basic wrong. Try and find someone local who can help.

The device remains in update mode (the light stays on). As U can see I tried 3 times
It doesn't appear that you have changed directory to the location of the fw file ,unless you have it all in
C:UsersMorgan>...
As the exe ran it seems you have
I ran thru it successfully and you can see the fw updateing with % progress.
I then tried it wiht the wrong filename and also with the IR Toy not plugged into USB and it behaved as you described.
So back to a faulty device or user error...and unfortunately I am out of ideas....

I tried changing the file name. Same result. I would guess you're right that its hardware. I wish there were a way to scan the hardware to test it.
Pity....maybe your supplier will replace if it is near new.
Did you try with different USB cables, which could be another point of failure.
