Title: IR Toy's IR LED self-destructs
Post by: Bobalong on February 02, 2015, 10:13:05 am
Hi,

When my new USB IR Toy v2 had been plugged into a laptop USB port (no powered hub involved) for a few minutes there was a sharp 'snap'.  It appears that the IR LED had overheated.  Now when viewed from the end, the LED is only a half-circle.  The other half was found on the far side of the room.

There is a continuous 5v on the LED's terminals.
I'm using Gentoo Linux on an HP laptop.
Before connecting the Toy I soldered female headers.  No solder bridges are visible.

Do I have a defective unit?

Thanks
