Title: CPiLD
Post by: brian on August 05, 2012, 02:58:30 am
CPiLD is a CPLD board for Raspberry Pi currently in beta.

It is based on XC9572XL and an I2C buffer. It has a switch and 2 LEDs and provisions for more placements on the back of the board.

More info is available here: http://teholabs.com/docs/cpild:overview (http://teholabs.com/docs/cpild:overview)

And in this youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X91u79wAK4Y&feature=plcp (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X91u79wAK4Y&feature=plcp)

I liked the idea. Any schematics maybe?

On another note, you may choose Indiegogo as an alternative to Kickstarter. That way even if you do not meet your goal, you can get some money. I didn't post on Youtube page, but count me in!

As I think I said on the doc page, I will post schematics for it after I make a correction or two (the clock on the back side of the board is too close to the female header for one thing).

I have slowly rewriting my entire KiCAD part library so that I can start to release designs.

I would be interested to know if people think the headers should be placed? I got these extra long double sided male pins for the long row but soldering them so both top and bottom work nicely is not easy as the solder like to get on the side of the pin.

I kind of think the headers should be soldered as part of the point is to allow people without an iron access to the GPIO header.

Since I want to do a short run of these rather than put them together, I think all or nothing funding makes the most sense.

I would probably just do PCB and full item as levels. Right now I don't have the time to hand make products that is why it has to be a big batch.

tayken, I put a schematic on the doc page today.

It is interesting. Whether I want one myself would depend on the price. The schematic shows a generic oscillator, would that be stuffed and if so what frequency? Could I get just the PCB, without parts?

The clock is standard 7 mm package and would not be placed on the back, so select whatever freq you want. I think it would come in under 20 USD but I have to do more detailed pricing to be sure, there are a lot of overheads for small runs..

If it is kickstarted it will have a PCB only option for sure. But I have to figure a price structure where that won't cause a loss for me. (IE if it makes the amount but people only order a moderate amount put together then the costs are higher).
