Title: Openbench Logic Sniffer is up (Project SUMP PUMP version 1)
Post by: ian on February 25, 2010, 10:22:44 am
Project SUMP PUMP has become the Openbench Logic Sniffer, or just Open Logic Sniffer sometimes. We'll use the Openbench title with accessories too, like an Openbench digital sampling oscillioscope wing.

The hardware has been up at Seeed (http://http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/preorder-open-workbench-logic-sniffer-p-612.html?cPath=75) for the last few days. The most recent project files are available at the Gadget Factory (http://http://www.gadgetfactory.net/gf/project/butterflylogic/). Today we published an article about the design and collaboration (http://http://dangerousprototypes.com/2010/02/25/prototype-open-logic-sniffer-logic-analyzer-2/) at Dangerous Prototypes.

The initial price is $45, including worldwide shipping. Our goal was a $30-$40 logic analyzer, but the price includes shipping so we managed to get really really close.

It was a really exciting project to work on. Thanks to everyone who helped make this design possible.

Cool!! I'm just reading the specs, also the ability to have higher level protocol analysis (didn't know it) Also the article is very comprehensive (can't read it here at work ;) So read it later on indept). Great job, guys

Does it come with testleads/clips?

I do have a couple of displays that are waiting to be hacked.. :D

Excellent work! i've already ordered mine. If a lot of people order, will seeed studio ship faster? They're waiting for a certain number of orders, right?

Great writeup as well, it doesn't get any more open than this.

I think we're going to try to get a handle on the popularity to the point where we can estimate how many to make in the first batch, then they'll go off to the factory. A major trend in either direction (lots of sales, or very few sales) will probably speed up the process because we'll know how many to commit to for the first batch.

Count me in for one also, but I'll wait a bit to get more stuff stuffed in one order.

I hope this helps to speed up things :P

I'll be ordering mine too when I move up to my new location.

Can they manage to get some test clips and a case until the end of preorder? It would be great if it is possible!

Great job guys!

We asked Seeed for a cable, they're working on it. I'll ask for an update and see if it'll be possible to get it before the end of the preorder.

Here is one option, seems overpriced

Test clips set:

Well there are possibilities with the test clips and other stuff (DIY being the one of them :) ) but buying them from the same vendor will probably be good for Seeed also.

You could buy the buspirate probekit and some jumper wire from seed and make one up yourself.

However i think these jumper cables are too sturdy and i think it will break near the probe (someday)

Any news on the cable set?

I prolly gonna order one in about two weeks (depends on the availability of other goods in the depot).

I'm just waiting on the cable set before I press the order button, so I wouldn't mind an update on that front either :)

Seeed does already sell some cables which you can use:

http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/1-pin- ... l?cPath=34 (http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/1-pin-dualfemale-jumper-wire-300mm-p-96.html?cPath=34) and http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/1-pin- ... l?cPath=34 (http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/1-pin-dualfemale-jumper-wire-100mm-50pcs-pack-p-260.html?cPath=34) . The last one I'm using for my buspirate development and testing of chips. I think they are a bit too sturdy for everyday use (but good for static work) If you like clips you can also order the buspirate probe kit which has 8 testhooks and 2 microhooks http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/preord ... p-526.html (http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/preorder-bus-pirate-probe-kit-p-526.html)

I noticed this reply on the seeed blog: http://www.seeedstudio.com/blog/?p=988#comment-1751 (http://www.seeedstudio.com/blog/?p=988#comment-1751) Looks like there will be a case and a probe set!!

I'm curious what the result will be...
