First I want to congratulate all the guys that have worked on this project. It's a very usefull tool.
Is someone ever consider using a PIC24HJ instead of the actual PIC24FJ ? The PIC24HJ128GP202 has exactly the same pinout but 2 times the ROM and it can run at 80 MHz. That could give much more power to the Bus Pirate!
Hi Toley,
Thanks for the suggestion. I've looked at this chip as a drop in replacement before, but unfortunately it only comes in a SOIC package, not the smaller SSOP currently used on the Bus Pirate. Maybe a redesign with the 44pin TQFP version would be good.
I'd consider the PIC24FJ64GB002
Same number of pins, but with built-in USB support.
Potential to eliminate the FT232 chip, and release the pins connecting it to the PIC.
More pins = more I/O.
