Title: PICqueño free build
Post by: fcobcn on October 11, 2011, 03:59:35 pm
As usual with my builds, most of the components were free sourced or recycled.
Total cost were around 3€, for FTDI chip and USB socket.
Caps, resistors, LEDs, transistors, crystal and even pinheaders were all recycled (I really need to get a 0603 kit!!)

A couple of components are missing, like the 5v regulator, power socket and diodes. But it's possible to work with USB power.
The bootloader was burnt using a DIY pickit2.

I couldn't upload sketches on a mac, but works perfectly on a vm XP system.

Thanks Ian!

I've been looking to build a PicKit 2 (to replace my fried ICD3).  Did you roll your own completely, or follow an existing project?  Can you post the link to a write up?

I did an existing design, I can look for it, if you are willing to construct one.

schazamp, I did my pickit2 with files from this forum thread:

Here is another clone that works with 5V/3.3V parts!

Very nice job!  Where do you buy the PIC processor?

I guess the question is how to program it without a pickit :D

I was planning to make a JDM2 (following this instructable: http://www.instructables.com/id/JDM2-ba ... rogrammer/ (http://www.instructables.com/id/JDM2-based-PIC-Programmer/) - thanks Ian) to program 18F2550 for the pickit2.  I'm just waiting on an 8.2V Zener to arrive.

Talk about bootstrapping :) That said, I used my homemade ICD2 clone for years, programmed with that same JDM2 clone :)
