Ahh the joys of DRM....
I can't seem to find any (free as in beer) virtual serial ports that work with 64-bit Windows 7.
com0com & com2tcp looked promising, claims to work in win 7, but didn't for me. Got a cryptic error message when trying to create the virtual port.
The one linked from the page about using lcd smartie with the twatch (http://http://dangerousprototypes.com/2009/09/17/prototype-network-lcd-backpack-with-lcd-smartie/) wants money for the 64 bit version.
Anyone had any luck in 64 bit win 7?
Should I abandon hope and write my own python script?
I'm sorry, I don't know anything about Win7. I believe there is an example in the pyserial documentation that implements a virtual serial port, that might be somewhere to start looking.
If you come up with a solution, will you please share? I'm sure someone else might find it handy.
I'll give that a look.
Hacking the LCD Smartie code might also be an option.
Will report back when I make some progress :)
There was talk of limbo modifying LCD smartie with a plugin as well but i think he has been busy .
I wonder if lcd smartie has a plugin that could be modified.
