There doesn't seem to be any open thread for design comment. I finally started using my bus blaster today. The only item immediately apparent is that it would be more convenient if the 20 pin header were rotated 180 degrees. For all the development boards I have the current alignment requires the board to be either upside down or have the cable over the board. Perhaps tab in placement of the dev board header isn't universal though and it would just cause equal awkwardness for other boards with the other placement. Also could be worse for layout as the pins on the edge are GND I guess.
i have run into the same problem with dev boards made by the chip manufacturers.
longer cables can fix this, or you can chose to find something else to be annoyed about, one way or another there is always a drawback, and cable orientation is usually the least of a designers worries.
Maybe we can get a header with a key on both sides? I have seen that before.

It isn't a major issue, I just didn't know if there was a quasi standard. My two other JTAGs have it the way that doesn't have the folding. It is fine though one of them is in a case so who knows maybe the board is upside down :-)

The pins would still need to be reversed. Given sqkybeaver's remark, I am sorry I mentioned it. I was thinking of seeing if I could spoof Ti's ICDI with the Bus Blaster. (I'll put it on my infinite todo list).
the orientation of the connector on the end of the cable can be swapped, but ends twisting the cable.
another option is using a connector where the wires leave the connector perpendicular to the board.
Duh, you're totally right :D
But hey - how about a 90 degree connector? better under than over?
ill dig out an adapter i made years ago, and post a photo at some point, give an idea how things can be cheated.
