Title: OLS Availability
Post by: steamraven on November 24, 2010, 06:22:28 pm
I just discovered this project and I am very excited about an open source analyzer.  However, seeed (and their distributers) seems to be out of stock.  Where else can I get one of these?
Are there different revisions? What is the current revision?

I also noticed there is a logic analyzer project (lax) at gadget factory that runs on the papillo one (butterfly one) boards.  How different is this from the OLS codebase?

Cheers,
Matt

Hi streamraven - Seeed has 50 more to put in stock today, so they will be shipping shortly. We have a full batch of a new revision (just updated to a different, smaller ROM chip, no functional change) coming shortly too.

I believe the papillo board with a buffer wing is about the same as an OLS. The difference is the device to PC interface, the OLS uses a PIC, but I don't know about the papillo (I assume it's a FT2232 USB-> serial connection to SUMP).

Hello Matt,

I just saw an email from Seeed Studio that they are about to make around 50 more boards available. So if you keep watching that could be happening any time now. They also have another batch of 1000 that are being manufactured and tested right now, I'm not sure when those will be ready though.

The Logic Analyzer project at Gadget Factory is lagging behind the OLS codebase, I would only recommend the Papilio One board if you are looking for an FPGA development board and a Logic Analyzer. If you only want a Logic Analyzer then the OLS is the way to go. I do plan on updating the LA code for the Papilio One to match the OLS code but I'm not sure when I can have that done.

On another note, I am working on getting manufacturing in place for the OLS at Gadget Factory as well. This will provide a faster shipping option for North America customers.

Jack.

Thanks for the quick reply. Since they are getting some in soon, I'll just go ahead and order.

I look forward to playing with it.  Regarding the papillo, I think having the LAX being synced to the OLS would be very beneficial. I for one am primarily looking for a logic analyzer, but I would definably pay more, if I could also get a nice FPGA development board.

Thanks for all the hard work in making this possible!

Matt

Is there any chance these will be stocked in time for Christmas?

The OLS is pretty fast to source, and I believe they rushed it to assembly. I'm not entirely certain at this time, but I would hope so. 500 Bus Pirates were stocked today, the OLS was requested before that, so I have my fingers crossed for a quick restock.

The Gadget Factory might have it in stock soon.

I've been programming the OLS board into the Pick and Place machine all day. I'm just about ready to start assembling some boards. I hope to have some for sale at Gadget Factory very soon now.

Jack.
