Title: Custom voltage for UART with BusPirate 3.6
Post by: ccc on July 13, 2021, 07:45:33 pm
Hello everybody,

First, I am totally new to hardware testing. I try to read / search for a maximum resources on Internet but some are still obscure to me.

I want to interact with a chip through UART.
In the datasheet, the voltage domain is between -0.3 and 2.1V for RX/TX.

The BusPirate is able to use 3.3V and a "pullup". I read some docs but I have difficulties to understand exactly what it is and how to implement it ...

It means that I will not able to communicate with my chip with default voltage setting 3.3V ?
If not, how I can have a 2V source plugged into the BusPirate ?

Thanks!

What is the chip you are trying to interface with?

Looking at the voltage levels, it seems that you cannot use this chip with BP directly. But there are level shifters that can be used for interfacing.
